You may remember that back in May 2024, we mentioned that we love a challenge and being able to ‘give back’, which is why a team of 4 of us joined other local 'athletes' to raise money for the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation and MND Association by taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge.
An inspirational friend that many of the Shrewsbury office know from the Shropshire networking scene, Nick Deane, was diagnosed with MND in November 2023. Nick decided to tackle his diagnosis head on, saying "It mattered to me to make a difference whilst I still could", "I couldn’t retreat to bed". With that, he promptly set himself a fundraising goal of £100,000, and we couldn’t not get involved.
After the 3 Peaks Challenge his fundraising total leapt to an amazing £54,000, but we wanted to help get him closer to that magic number. What could we do? Help him arrange a black-tie gala of course!
Nick Jones, a Director at Throgmorton, was instrumental in organising the gala event at Shrewsbury Town FC on 5 April 2025, and this included online and silent auctions, a two-course meal, live jazz music and a guest speaker appearance by MND Association Ambassador Olivia Lee. Throgmorton were also proud to be a sponsor, and a number of our colleagues enjoyed the evening. It was a huge success and brought Nick Deane’s fundraising total to £88,000!
Nick Jones says ‘Fortunately, Nick Deane was able to stay quite late on the evening, and my personal highlight was when the room gave him a well- deserved lengthy standing ovation for all that he has achieved’.
It’s still not too late to donate ….. Fundraiser by Nicholas Deane : Nick’s MND Fundraisers
Shropshire Festivals were also involved in organising this event and were happy to share this video with us and it sums up the night perfectly ….
