Leanne Clifford - Paris Marathon 2025

22 May 2025

What motivates you to run a Marathon?  This was an easy question for Leanne and her Mum (Michelle) to answer …. in short, in loving memory of a Dad and a Husband.

They wanted to raise money for a fantastic charity called Lingen Davies who, without them they wouldn’t have had the extra valuable time with him that they did.  The charity is dedicated to supporting the people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid-Wales as they deal with the impact of cancer on their lives.

They had both applied for the London Marathon, and Leanne’s Mum got a place and Leanne didn’t ….. so, when she was offered a place in the Paris Marathon, Leanne thought “why not!”

This was their first marathon (and possibly their last!) Neither had a time in mind as they just wanted to finish.  Michelle successfully completed the London marathon in 6 hours, 45 minutes.  Unfortunately for Leanne, Paris isn’t set up for slower novice runners (something they weren’t aware of beforehand), and anyone who finishes after 6 hours, gets a medal but not an official finish time which was gutting for Leanne.  She thinks she completed it in about the same time as her Mum.

Collectively they wanted to raise a minimum of £5,000 and through donations, a Halloween Dance, two raffles, a quiz and two bake sales they managed to raise over £8,600 – which was an INCREDIBLE achievement.

Both wanted to say a huge thank you to their family, friends and everyone at Throgmorton who supported their events and donated. It meant a lot to them and the charity to have such overwhelming support.
