Birmingham charity, Networkfour, receives £3,000 of funding from the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation

14 May 2024

Last week, one of our Advisers, Alex Totman, had the honour of presenting a cheque to Gary Wicker, Founder and CEO of Networkfour, as a result of their funding application to the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation which was supported by Throgmorton Associates.

Gary does some amazing work in and around Birmingham including mentoring offenders back into the community to break the cycle of crime. He also runs a project called ‘Life and Sole’, where he has given over 7,500 pairs of shoes to disadvantaged children all over the UK, whether that’s smart shoes for job interviews, or sports shoes so they can participate in physical education.

Rather than just supporting the charity’s application, Alex decided to take things further and joined Gary on the streets of Birmingham to see his Birmingham Street Pastors Project patrolling the streets on a busy Friday night. Whilst doing this, Alex was thrown in at the deep end by having to make a 999 call whilst Gary was giving first aid to a lady having a seizure. The Street Pastors are very much part of the ‘eyes and ears’ of Birmingham and sometimes the first on the scene of a crime or injury - so this was just a standard Friday night for Gary and his volunteers. Amazing work and a real eye- opener for Alex.

Gary said, “The application process itself was very straightforward and this donation will support our ongoing compassionate work and care for some of the most vulnerable people in Birmingham. It means so much to so many in need of a safety-net at moments of great vulnerability. Thank you on their behalf.”

Alex said, “Gary is an amazing man with a great passion for helping others. We were delighted to be able to provide financial support and, by joining the Street Pastors on a busy Friday night in Birmingham, it certainly opened my eyes to the work that they do.”
